WHAT IS APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a proven method of helping individuals, including those with autism, learn important life skills such as communication, social interaction, and self-care. It is also very effective in helping people unlearn harmful or problematic behaviors such as self-harm, aggression, and defiance.
PLEASE NOTE: Services are currently only offered in Chico, Redding & Mt. Shasta/Yreka.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ABA FOR PEOPLE WITH AUTISM?
ABA is a research-based intervention that has been proven effective for people with autism since the 1960’s. It can help learners develop simple skills such as looking, imitating, and following one-step directions. It can also help people learn more complex skills such as understanding another person’s perspective, conversing, and reading. ABA has been endorsed by many state and local government agencies, including the US Surgeon General. ABA has been proven effective for people of all ages.
HOW DOES THIS TREATMENT WORK?
ABA begins with a detailed evaluation of a person’s current behaviors and skill levels. This evaluation then leads to a behavior plan designed to teach the skills that are needed and desired. An essential element of the treatment is called “positive reinforcement,” which is based on the principle that rewards increase the frequency and likelihood of behaviors. A behavior specialist will implement the behavior plan by working directly with the individual as well as with caregivers and parents. The services are delivered at all of our centers as well as in the home. The treatment duration depends on the unique needs of the individuals served.
WHO WOULD BE WORKING WITH US?
Remi Vista utilizes professional staff who are qualified and nationally credentialed to provide ABA. The Behavioral Clinician, who conducts the assessment and develops the behavior plan, is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCABA). The Behavioral Specialist, who implements the behavior plan working directly with the individual and caregivers, is trained in the implementation of ABA interventions and principles, and supervised by the Behavioral Clinicians.
